BSK mourns the passing of former professor Dr. Les Hill. Dr. Hill was Professor of Missions and Evangelism at BSK, retiring in 2007.
Dr. Les Hill valued learning. He earned his B.A. from Oklahoma Baptist University, an M.Div. from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, an M.A. in Missiology from the School of World Missions, Fuller Theological Seminary, and a D.Miss. from Fuller Theological Seminary.
Dr. Hill’s life was rich and full of leadership in ministry. He pastored churches in Texas before spending 38 years serving with the Foreign Mission Board. He and his wife Jan ministered in the Philippines, Southeast Asia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Dr. Hill also served terms as seminary president in both the Philippines and Singapore.
In a letter sent to Dr. Hill upon his retirement from BSK in 2007, President Dr. Greg Earwood wrote,
“Thank you for sharing yourself, your expertise and your commitment to Christ with us Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. On a very personal note, I value your willingness to share from the richness of your experiences as a former seminary president with me as a novice. You did so in a manner that was helpful, never condescending and affirming. I am grateful to you.”
A memorial Service will be held Thursday, April 17, at 12:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 150 East High Street, Lexington, Kentucky. Visitation is on the same day at 11:00 AM.
BSK gives thanks to God for the gift of Dr. Les Hill’s life and offers prayers of comfort for Jan and the Hill family.
