Dr. David Cassady, President

Dr. David Cassady serves as BSK’s second president. BSK’s first president, Dr. Greg Earwood, served until his retirement in 2016. Cassady began serving in May 2017.

“BSK is a wonderful community, boldly working for racial justice and reconciliation, empowering women in ministry, and supporting healthly rural ministry,” said Dr. Cassady, “The spirit of innovation around lifelong theological education at BSK reflects the school’s work in not only serving today’s congregations, but in shaping a new generation of leaders for a changing church.”

Over the last 30 years, Cassady has served churches directly and through organizational leadership in publishing, business, and curriculum development.

Cassady brings entrepreneurial experience as the founder and president of Faithlab, a growing communications and consulting firm that works with a wide range churches and religious nonprofits. As part of Faithlab’s work, Cassady assembled a team that created Faithelement, an innovative online Bible study curriculum now used by hundreds of classes. He can be heard weekly on the Faithelement podcast

He also serves as the Church Resources Editor and is a member of the book acquisitions team for Nurturing Faith. The organization, together with the team at Faithlab, publishes around 15 titles per year, as well as the popular Nurturing Faith Bible Studies.

Cassady taught philosophy and religion courses as an adjunct at Wesleyan College, a historic women’s college in Macon, Georgia. He also served on the Christian Education and Nurture Committee for the Baptist World Alliance.

While finishing his dissertation in 1992, Cassady became the first employee at Smyth & Helwys Publishing. He began working as the Youth Design Editor, then became the Managing Editor, and later the Vice President for the Editorial Division. By the conclusion of his 16 years of work there, he was the Executive Vice President and Publisher. Cassady’s interest in curriculum development led to the creation of numerous curriculum lines and resources at the company, most of which continue to be published.

Cassady earned a B.S. in Religion and Philosophy from Ouachita Baptist University, studied philosophy at the graduate level at Baylor University, and received an M.Div. C.E. and Ph.D. from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. While in seminary he served as Associate Pastor for Education and Youth at Buechel Park Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky.

Located on the beautiful campus of Georgetown College and in Louisville on the campus of Simmons College (HBCU), the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky develops men and women who are spiritually healthy, theologically reflective, and practically trained for life and ministry in faithful witness to Jesus Christ in the church and in the world.

Founded in 2002, BSK is committed to theological education affirming the God-given gifts of each student and grounded in spiritual, moral, and intellectual formation in the Christian life. BSK’s primary commitment is to exercise together scholarly gifts and vocation as stewards of the mysteries in service to God’s church.
