Brogdon leaving BSK for a new leadership role

Lexington, KY —BSK Theological Seminary announces the transition of the Rev. Dr. Lewis Brogdon, Associate Professor and Executive Director of the Institute for Black Church Studies, as he assumes a new role as Executive Director of JustFaith Ministries in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Brogdon’s move represents the next chapter in his vocational journey—one that builds upon his lifelong commitment to faith-rooted justice, formation, and public witness. BSK celebrates this moment with gratitude and confidence, recognizing the broader reach Dr. Brogdon’s leadership will have in shaping communities of faith and action.

During his tenure at BSK, Dr. Brogdon has been a cherished teacher, mentor, and prophetic voice. His scholarship and pedagogy inspired students and congregations to integrate rigorous theological reflection with courageous engagement in the work of justice, particularly within and alongside the Black Church. As Executive Director of the Institute for Black Church Studies, he expanded its impact across classrooms, congregations, and public conversations, leaving an indelible mark on the seminary’s mission and culture.

“Dr. Brogdon’s leadership has been a gift to BSK,” said BSK President David Cassady. “While we will miss his profound work and presence, we are proud to see him step into this significant role with JustFaith Ministries. We send him forth with our deepest appreciation and prayers, and look forward to continued collaboration and partnership in the years ahead as our shared commitments intersect.”

BSK Theological Seminary remains steadfastly committed to the mission and future of the Institute for Black Church Studies, for which a new director will be sought. The seminary will also continue to invest in teaching, research, and formation that centers the life, theology, and witness of the Black Church. Details regarding a national search for a faculty position will be announced at a later date.
