On Friday, July 11, Baptist Seminary of Kentucky held its 11th annual golf scramble with 69 golfers participating. We had a gorgeous day for golf at Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown. There were some great golf shots and some not so great ones. But the fellowship was rich with laughter and fun which is one of the primary purposes of the scramble.
The Seminary makes some money for our mission of preparing students for Gospel ministry. A small portion of the fee for each golfer helps support BSK.
Gifts from our sponsors provide the majority of the funds the Seminary utilizes for training ministers to pursue their calling in churches and other Christian organizations. BSK is grateful this year for three corporate sponsors.
Bluegrass Family Health, led by CEO Jim Fritz, has been a perennial sponsor. Thanks, Jim, for supporting us again and bringing Team Fritz to participate. Jim was joined by Bob Baker, Hank Ellington and Tom Kelly (2 staff ministers and a member at Calvary Baptist). Bluegrass Family Health has a good reputation of service in their field.
Baptist Health, with hospitals in Corbin, La Grange, Lexington, Louisville, Madisonville, Paducah and Richmond – participated as a corporate body for the first time. BH Lexington, or Central Baptist Hospital as it was formerly named, has supported BSK’s golf event for years. Several Baptist Health personnel and Board members (who are also current or former Trustees at BSK) played in the scramble. The Seminary is glad to have this good Baptist connection!
Ann and Danny McMahan were also special “corporate” sponsors. Their gift was in memory of Ann’s mother, Mary Jo Acree. Ann, a BSK Trustee, and Danny are thankful for the Christian witness of her mother. Ann and Danny support the Seminary because we are preparing ministers whose witness is to Christ and the power of the Gospel.

Seminary personnel Steve Hadden (part-time Assistant to the President) spearheaded the golf scramble with significant help from Administrative Assistant Glenda Simpson and with assistance from President Earwood and Director of Admissions Jarrod Lopez. Cherry Blossom golf personnel were invaluable in putting on a good event.
