Medley Travels to Nassau, Bahamas with Baptist World Alliance

Dr. Mark Medley has been a part of BSK’s Faculty since 2007.

The Baptist World Alliance (BWA) met in Nassau, Bahamas July 8-12. Dr. Mark Medley, BSK’s Professor of Theology, is a member of the BWA Commission on Baptist Doctrine and Christian Unity. Dr. Medley attended this Commission’s session, presenting a paper “We See in Glass More Clearly”:  Highland Baptist Church (KY) and the Ecclesial Importance of Gazing Upon the Saints” in the Commission’s final session on Friday, July 12. Dr. Medley also attended two sessions of the Commission on Theological Education and several BWA General Council sessions (as a non-voting participant). There were 379 participants from 50 countries at BWA. Dr. Medley says of his experience,

“It was amazing to hear of the ministries from the many rooms in the global Baptist family house.  Global Baptist are incarnating the love and mercy of Christ in so many ways.  It was also a delight to experience unity among Baptists.   Unity can be a rare experience among Baptists as my own personal history can testify.  However, the BWA meeting was a pleasant counterfactual to my experience.  Overall, the meeting brought me much encouragement regarding the global Baptist movement.

Another highlight of my trip was spending time with several friends.  I was also able to meet new friends from the Baptist global family, including persons from France, Jamaica, The Bahamas, England, and Australia.  Tuesday evening of the BWA meeting coincided with the Bahamian Independence Day celebration.  I was able to attend some of these festivities along with fellow BWA attendees.  On Friday I was able to explore some of the historical sites in Nassau with friends.”
