BSK kicks off a new semester with highest number of students in the seminary’s history

Classes began for BSK students on Monday, August 21. This semester marks some historic milestones for BSK, with the highest number of students in the seminary’s history. This record-breaking number of students encompasses students enrolled in BSK’s Master of Divinity program as well as auditors, graduate certificate students, and students receiving non-credit certificates in Black Church Studies through BSK’s Institute for Black Church Studies.

Since 2020, when BSK began offering synchronous, live classes via in-place learning, BSK’s student body has grown to encompass students attending from where they live and serve across 19 states. This growth has also greatly impacted the diversity of students within BSK’s classes. Reflecting what has been seen in the demand for theological education, BSK’s student population is more diverse in racial, gender, and age demographics than ever before.

BSK President Dr. David Cassady, commented, “There is a real hunger for relevant theological education among congregations and their leaders. Our partners across the NBCA and CBF are inviting their leaders to join us around this table of learning, and BSK is excited to offer innovative paths for their growth. The broad diversity reflected in our growing community enriches learning for all of us.”
