BSK MDiv. student, Leigh Anne Armstrong, wrote a song about Good Friday entitled, “In Paradise.” Take a listen and read the lyrics below.
“In Paradise” by Leigh Anne Armstrong
the last thing you hear on the day you die
next to some king, a pretty nice guy
the last thing you hear on the day you die
‘today you’ll dine with me in paradise’
in paradise…
how did your life turn out like this
a few bad breaks dragged you to the abyss
he sealed his fate with a traitor’s kiss
for you it was the paydays, hit or miss
no paradise…
if there’s a god he don’t care for you
you’re damaged goods he’s got better to do
just take your licks until you’re through
‘it’s too late now’ those words ring true
no paradise…
but the last thing you hear on the day you die
next to some king, a pretty nice guy
the last thing you hear on the day you die
‘today you’ll dine with me in paradise’
in paradise.
they lynched jesus there, under the placard *king of the jews*,
between 2 bandits by the side of the public road…with one of his last breaths,
jesus promised the man hanging next to him, ‘this day you’ll be with me in paradise.’
