On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, BSK will host the annual Hinson Lectures. The Hinson Lectures series, which began in 2009, honors the life and work of Dr. E. Glenn Hinson, by inviting lecturers who share the late Dr. Hinson’s passion for Christian scholarship in and for the life of the church and the world. This year’s lecturer is Dr. Cláudio Carvalhaes. Dr. Carvalhaes, “Earth thinker, theologian, liturgist, performer, artist and playwright, a native Brazilian from São Paulo,” is Professor of Worship at Union Theological Seminary in New York.
The Hinson Lectures will feature a morning lecture beginning at 10:30 AM, ET, from Dr. Carvalhaes entitled, “Spiritual Practices to Live in a World Who is Gone.“ This lecture will also be live-streamed at bsk.edu/hinson. Then, following a provided lunch, at 1:15 PM, Dr. Carvalhaes will lead an afternoon workshop (in-person only) entitled “When the World is Gone, Where Do We Go?” We will learn from the Psalms, poetry, earth knowledge, and forms of resistance from various peoples and places–engaging together in practices for sustenance, renewal, and transformation.
If you are able to attend the Hinson Lectures in person, they will be held at Central Baptist Church, 110 Wilson Downing Road, Lexington, KY 40517.
