Associate Minister’s Position

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Owensboro, Kentucky offers a full-time position of congregational leadership to an ordained minister in collegial association with the senior minister, church staff, congregation and community at large.

The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Owensboro, Kentucky has a long history of worship and service in our community. Recently rebuilt after being destroyed by fire, our church seeks to welcome all and to serve all from our home at 700 JR Miller Boulevard in Owensboro.

Guidelines for Ministry

Christian Education
-Act as the congregation’s primary administrator in the development of the program of religious education
-With the Education Committee oversee the Sunday School program for adults and children, including the purchase and assessment of curriculum and serving as a resource person for the committee.
-Develop programs of teacher recruitment and orientation.
-Develop programs for adult education beyond Sunday School

-Work with the Senior Minister and music staff in the planning of regular and special worship services.
-Share in preaching on a regular basis.
-Share leadership in the worship services with the Senior Minister.
-Conduct weddings and funerals as requested and assist in special services as needed.

Youth Ministry
-In partnership with the Senior Minister, direct the church’s program of youth groups
-Assist in the recruitment, preparation and orientation of youth group leaders.
-Maintain a schedule and calendar of youth activities
-Coordinate our church’s participation in regional youth camps and conferences.

Pastoral Care
-Share with the Senior Minister in a regular schedule of hospital, nursing home, hospice and home visitation.
-Meet monthly with the Board of Elders to share in pastoral oversight of the congregation.

Wider Church Involvement
-Participate in regional and general church programs and activities.
-Participate in ecumenical and interfaith activities in the local community.
-Pursue professional continuing education and growth in ministry.
