Graduate Highlight: Ben Burton

Graduate Highlight: Ben Burton

Ben has found a calling in chaplaincy.

This week, we have been highlighting our 4 graduates as our Commencement ceremony approaches this Saturday, May 12, 2018. Our graduates have been completing The Benediction this semester with Dr. John Inscore Essick. The Benediction is a class all graduating BSK students take in their final semester. The class is designed to integrate theological studies with ongoing preparation for Christian ministry. As a final assignment in The Benediction, Dr. Inscore Essick had each graduating student write a benediction for the BSK Community. Our final graduate to be highlighted is Ben Burton. Read Ben’s benediction for the BSK Community below, along with his plans for after graduation.

Now we end this form of study to begin the study that is our very lives.

We have heard God’s voice.

We have been inspired by Jesus’ life.

We have followed the Spirit’s call.

To respond, to commit, to gather.

To wrestle, to argue, to confess, to cry.

To test God’s limits and our own.

And now we go…

We leave this place empowered to go into the world to share God’s abundant love.

We follow in the footsteps of the saints – the cloud of witnesses that surrounds us.

We go in the confidence that, like our peers before us, God goes with us.

We go in peace.

In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Ben has accepted a position with Norton Healthcare as a resident chaplain for 2018/2019.
