BSK alumnus accepts call as new pastor under unique circumstances during COVID-19 pandemic

Jeremy has most recently been the Pastor of Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, GA.

BSK alumnus, Rev. Jeremy Shoulta, has recently accepted the call to be the next Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Gainesville, GA. This call came at a unique time for the church and for our world as a whole during the COVID-19 pandemic. After being introduced to the congregation through a video, Jeremy preached to a nearly empty sanctuary via live streaming for the congregation to see. The congregational vote was done online/over the phone. Nurturing Faith wrote an article on Jeremy’s experience. The article reads,

“Following the overwhelming affirmative votes, Jeremy will begin as pastor in Gainesville on April 19 — though uncertainty remains as to when the pews will fill again.

One may wonder what church members of the near and distant past would have thought of someday calling a pastor they had never met or heard personally. But strange times call for innovation and adaptation — even when it comes to the spiritual discernment of calling new pastoral leadership.”
